Letter from President Schmotter

To the Western Connecticut State University Community:

Western Connecticut State University has, since 1954, been accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).  That the university has earned this distinction reflects the quality of the education we provide our students, the outstanding faculty on campus and the dedication and talents of the entire WCSU community.

WCSU was last reaccredited in 2003 and efforts are now underway to prepare for the next NEASC reaccreditation self-study.  This process will culminate with an on-site evaluation by a team of faculty members and administrators from other institutions of higher education in October 2013.

As part of this process, a Steering Committee has been formed and teams consisting of faculty members and staff will begin to address the eleven NEASC standards of accreditation.  This will afford us a great opportunity to share the accomplishments achieved from the implementation of our Strategic Plan as well as an occasion to evaluate all aspects of the university and set the stage for our future direction.

While the NEASC Steering Committee and Standards teams have primary responsibility for this task, they will be turning to many on the campus for advice, counsel and assistance.  I know they can count on the help of all in this important endeavor.  Our progress in developing the self-study will be shared through this web site as well as regular updates by committee and team members.

I look forward to the report’s submission, and also to the positive reaction I have absolutely no doubt that it will garner from NEASC.
